Tunisia-FM Noureddine Erray meets French ambassador in Tunis Olivier Poivre D’Arvor

Foreign Minister Noureddine Erray met Tuesday in Tunis with French ambassador in Tunis, Olivier Poivre D’Arvor. The meeting focused on ways to strengthen bilateral and multilateral cooperation in the framework of the partnership with the European Union and the common events to come.

During this meeting, the Minister of Foreign Affairs underlined the “exemplary nature” of Tunisian-French relations, affirming that Tunisia intends to work harder to serve the interests of the two friendly countries, a statement of the ministry reads.

The meeting also made it possible to review the preparations for the Francophonie summit which will be held in Tunis in December 2020, in parallel with the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the creation of the International Organisation of the Francophonie (OIF).

Measures to stem the spread of covid-19 in both countries were also the focus of the meeting. Both sides stressed the importance of cooperation and coordination between their respective countries to combat the health and economic repercussions of the spread of this virus.

For his part, the French ambassador in Tunis expressed his country’s commitment to continue supporting Tunisia in its democratic process and to help it in its response to economic and development challenges, stating that France aspires to strengthen the “strategic partnership” with Tunisia.

The meeting was also an opportunity to discuss a series of regional and international issues of common interest, including the situation in Libya, according to the same source.
