Tunisia-Fruit export generate 9.4-MD revenues until May 6

Despite a fall in Tunisia’s fruit exports, they produced revenues of 9.4 MD from January 2 till May 6, up 5.24% opposed to the same period of 2019, according to data from the National Observatory of Agriculture (French: ONAGRI).
According to the TAP, The volumes exported decreased by 18.6% to 1,166 tons on May 6 against 1,433 tonnes during the corresponding period of 2019.
This is largely due to the closing of the land and air borders of several countries amid the spread of the COVID-19. The governorate of Sidi Bouzid provided 22% to the amounts exported with 257 tonnes of fresh fruit, particularly peaches (1,426 tonnes), nectarines (93 tonnes) and apricots (33 tonnes).

Peaches are the most imported fruits by the Libyan market with approximately 214 tonnes, or 75% of the quantities shipped.
On the other hand, the exports of strawberries and nectarines have considerably progressed in terms of quantity and value associated with the same period of last year.
They rose 109% and 823% respectively and 108% and 679% in terms of value.
The Russian market contributed to an escalation in nectarine exports reaching 75 tonnes, including 7.23% tonnes from Sidi Bouzid until May 5, 2020.
These exports also profited the Spanish market and consolidated positioning on Middle Eastern markets.
The inter-professional fruit grouping (Gifruits) has created in coordination with Tuni-ship a direct sea line between the Port of Sfax and the Port of Tripoli. The goal is to increase the volume of exports to Tripoli.
