Tunisia-Heikal Makki: “In the absence of political government… all appointments does not make any step forward or backward” [Video]

Speaking to Tunisie Numérique, lawyer and leader of the People’s Movement, Heikal Makki, remarked on the recent appointments in several Tunisian ministries, revealing that they do not represent a notable change. He noted that these appointments seem to follow a predetermined and comprehensive program.

Makki admitted that the President of the Republic, Kais Saied, has the right to appoint whomever he wishes. Nevertheless, he stressed that the country requires more than just repetitive appointments from an administration lacking a distinct political vision. He underlined that without a political government dedicated to a revolutionary and ambitious program to rescue the country, such appointments would be ineffective in bringing about real progress or change.

He voiced his respect for all the newly appointed members of the government but argued that the current circumstances and challenges, as well as the major initiatives reported by President Saied, necessitate a thorough political vision. This vision should encompass a revolutionary agenda for Tunisia that aligns with the aspirations of the people and works in collaboration with the President.

Makki questioned the government’s strategy for addressing the economic and social needs of Tunisians in the context of the lofty ideals associated with national sovereignty. He raised concerns about whether these new appointments could contribute to fulfilling national sovereignty, self-sufficiency, and the establishment of a new Tunisia, as envisioned during the significant events of July 25.
