Speaking on private radio, Democratic Current member Hichem Ajbouni stressed that the President of the Republic, Kais Saied confused austerity and rationalization in the supervision of public expenditure.
He added that there is no question of speaking about austerity at the moment given that public services in Tunisia have declined considerably in recent years including education, health and transport.
Ajbouni estimated that such a policy would weaken the purchasing power of middle-class citizen, pointing out that the poverty rate in Tunisia had surpassed 20% and had even reached 40% in some regions.
