Tunisia-Illiteracy percentage falls to 17.7% in 2019 versus 18.1% in 2018

The illiteracy percentage dropped to 17.7% in 2019, opposed to 18.1% in 2018 and 18.4% in 2017.
According to figures from the National Institute of Statistics (INS), the illiteracy rate among women and men in communal areas over the past year hit 12.9%, while it grew to 29.5% in non-communal areas.
Moreover, the illiteracy rate declines as the average age befalls, reaching 2.8% for the 10-14 age groups, while it reaches 79.8% among the elderly (80 years and over).
The admission rate for the year 2019 was 96.1% for the 6-14 age group while it was 95.4% for men in the same age group.
The Jendouba region is assumed to be leading the way in terms of illiteracy rate, reaching 31.6%, followed by Kasserine with 30.2% and Siliana with 29.7%.
On the other hand, Ben Arous is the region with the lowest illiteracy rate, reaching 9.7%, followed by the governorate of Tunis with 10.1%, and Monastir with 10.5%.
The population of Tunisia has reached more than 11 million 700 thousand citizens, according to the latest general population and housing census of 2014.
