Tunisia- In footsteps of Al Kamour, protesters halt production at Gabes Chemical Group

Some dozen young demonstrators started an open sit-in, Al Kamour style, on Friday (November 13th) at the production sites of the Tunisian Chemical Group in Gabes, TAP reported.

Workers have been barred from resuming to their jobs and entering premises by sit-ins commanding for job creation at GCT and environmental companies.

Remember that following the termination of the Al Kamour accord, prime minister Hichem Mechihci had pledged to extend the approach adopted in this matter to other governorates.

Words that it appears have fed several regionalist tendencies. In fact, in addition to Gabés, a good number of regions have begun to protest, in particular Kef whose inhabitants observed a protest rally on 12 November in front of the seat of the governorate.

Calls for sit-ins were also propelled by certain regional representations of the UGTT, in particular the regional labour union of Tozeur and the regional labour union of Kairouan, which called on the inhabitants of their respective regions to protest and demand their right to development and employment.
