The ministry said that notwithstanding what Tunisia has accomplished in terms of promotion of women’s rights, by fostering a broad approach based on equal opportunities, the country is making steadfast advancement in the promulgation of legislation guaranteeing these rights, prominently women’s right to an adequate economic, political and social equality and the right to assert themselves in decision-making positions at all levels.

The ministry affirmed it had devised in this respect, a societal programme for the forthcoming period, intended to promote development, counter-extremism and terrorism, exterminate poverty and marginalisation and establish equal chances, reputably through the incorporation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations for the 2015-2030 period. The action will further concentrate on rural women’s empowerment and adaptation to the practical needs of interior regions, in addition to the amendment of the laws and provisions related to women’s protection and fighting all types of violence against women, to preserve abreast of the 2014 Constitution and international conventions adopted by the Tunisian government. The ministry also pointed out that every effort will be exerted to complete the preparation of the various sector-based plans issued from the Resolution 1325 of the UN Security Council on “Women, Peace and Security.”
