Tunisia-ISIE – Local elections: Cancellation of results of two candidates

The president of the Independent Higher Authority for Elections, Farouk Bouasker, reported, Monday, that the council of the body has decided to fully cancel the results of one of the candidates in the constituency of Touza in the delegation of Kssibet Madiouna from the governorate of Monastir.

During a press conference, he clarified that this decision came because of an appeal filed against him arguing that the candidate was a dual national.

He explained that after inquiry, it turned out that the candidate in question has Italian nationality, contrary to the declaration of honour he made.

Bouasker also highlighted that the council of the instance decided to completely nullify the results of one of the candidates in the electoral constituency of Menzel Chaker of the governorate of Sfax due to the distribution of cash and the remittance of funds to influence voters on February 4, in violation of electoral silence.

On the other hand, Bouaskar revealed that the final participation rate for the second round of local elections amounted to 12.53%. This ballot resulted in the election of 72 women and 707 men.
