Tunisia – Ksar Gafsa: Clashes between sub-Saharan people and police

Several dozen migrants from sub-Saharan African nations boarded a phosphate transport train this afternoon, Wednesday, April 10, 2024, leaving from the mining basin. They wanted to continue towards Sfax or Tunis, but security units affiliated with the Ksar Security Center in the Gafsa governorate stopped them from continuing their journey aboard the departing train.

The migrants intentionally threw stones at security agents and prevented the phosphate transport train from departing for  Sfax. Security units consequently used tear gas to expel from the station the migrants who insisted on boarding the train to continue their journey.

Agents have apprehended certain migrants, whose numbers have continued to increase in recent weeks in the Gafsa region.
