In a statement to Tunisie Numérique, head of the Consumer Guidance Organization Lotfi Riyahi clarified that according to Central Bank Circular No. 02 of 2024, costs and commissions for banking services have been frozen, following Chapter 28 of the aforementioned circular. Consequently, banks will not employ any additional fees for banking services until the end of this year.
He underscored that it was decided, beginning in January 2025, that banks would not raise commissions for banking services except with a reasoned license from the Central Bank, remarking that a department had furthermore been set up to observe banking practices, and a specialized team for field oversight had been formed within the Central Bank.
Concerning the frozen accounts, our speaker confirmed that there is a trend towards final liquidation and that it is fair in this respect, to maintain the rights of the consumer and not abuse him, especially with the presence of several problems linked with the frozen accounts, as the bank’s role is to shut down the frozen account after a year has passed, and but there are debt relief companies that buy the loan and then send the client. Thereforethere will be a final settlement of this issue in the next few days.
