Tunisia-Lotfi Riahi: “This is most prominent thing that distinguished Tunisian markets on 1s day of Ramadan” [Video]

In a statement to Tunisie Numérique, today, March 13, 2024, the head of the Tunisian Organization for Consumer Guidance, Lotfi Riahi, stated that the most prominent thing that was observed during the first three days of Ramadan was the substantial peak in the prices of red meat, while the rest of the items preserved their usual price pace despite the decline the consumer purchasing power.

Riahi added that a significant shortage of bread has been registered, with long queues waiting to obtain this item, calling for the need to distribute floor with fibre to all bakeries, so that this basic item is available for the Tunisian citizen’s consumption and therefore reduces the appearance of overcrowding.

Our speaker also revealed that the organization is keen to avoid waste and extreme consumption of some products such as bread and eggs, remarking that these practices fall within the citizen’s consumption, which the organization works to make rational.
