Tunisia-Mahjoub Aouni: “We have entered phase of decline in seasonal flu infections” [Video]

In a statement to Tunisie Numérique on Monday, February 12, 2024,  a virology professor Dr Mahjoub Aouni, stressed the current prevalence of diverse viruses during this period, notably H1N1 and H3N2. He highlighted the rapid transmission and widespread infection rates of these viruses, especially given the changing weather conditions and the holiday season, which fosters increased movement between regions and family gatherings. Therefore, there has been a significant rise in seasonal influenza cases throughout January.

He further remarked that infections had peaked in the previous period, explaining that while these viruses may not significantly impact overall health, they are spreading rapidly. Nevertheless, he also mentioned that Tunisia is currently experiencing a decline in seasonal influenza infections.
