Speaking to Tunisie Numérique, Nabil Hajji, the Secretary-General of the Democratic Current Party noted that the symposium held yesterday to mark the tenth anniversary of the issuance of the January 27, 2014, Constitution titled ‘Crises in the Constitutions of 2014 and 2022 aim was not to compare the two constitutions
Hajji explained that the 2022 Constitution is perceived as the personal will of the president of the republic Kais Saied. He voiced the view that this constitution may not represent the joint will of all Tunisians, considering it more of a personal project. He additionally asserted that if Saied were to depart, the 2022 Constitution would also leave with him.
Hajji challenged the ease with which the abandonment of the 2014 Constitution was accepted, despite its substantial level of participation. The emphasis of the symposium’s discussion is on the necessity to work towards drafting a constitution that represents all Tunisians with their diverse orientations, once the chapter for the 2022 Constitution is closed.
Nabil Hajji underscored that the symposium addressed the issue from both political and societal perspectives, featuring insights from notable figures in legal, judicial, and political fields.
