Tunisia- Observatory of Rights and Freedoms in Tunisia urges government to repatriate Tunisian children stranded in Syria and Libya

A human rights official asked on the Tunisian government to repatriate Tunisian children stranded in Syrian and Libyan refugee camps, according to Tunis Afrique Press on Sunday.

Marouan Jedda, executive director of the Observatory of Rights and Freedoms in Tunisia, announced that more than 110 Tunisian children living in Syrian refugee camps and 36 others in Libyan camps “are stripped of all their basic rights, including food, hygiene and health protection measures against COVID-19.”

The Tunisian official stated that cases of infection have been recorded in these camps.

“The situation became more complicated after the borders were closed because these children were unable to benefit from medical and health aid from the Red Crescent organizations and the United Nations,” he said.

Jedda emphasised that the repatriation of these children to their country of origin is a legitimate right.
