Tunisia-Olaibi: “Meloni’s frequent visits to Tunisia explain her preoccupation with illegal immigration” [Video]

Speaking to Tunisie Numérique, political analyst Farid Olaibi, remarked on the visit of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni to Tunisia. This marks the fourth visit of its sort in less than a year. Olaibi noted that the frequency of these visits reflects Meloni’s important concern with the issue of illegal immigration, especially as she had committed herself to solving the problem on the eve of her election victory

He added that Tunisia, in turn, suffers from the same issue, and believes that the solution can only be within a collaborative framework linking the two shores of the Mediterranean, the countries of sub-Saharan Africa and other countries, revealing that Tunisia’s position in this regard is clear and mentioned by the President of the Republic it a few days ago, which is that Tunisia is neither a headquarters nor a crossing point.

He stressed that this statement is inferred from Tunisian outrage, which is mainly because the European countries did not fulfil their promises and did not provide what was required to fix the problems, and this conclusion is supported by the statement of the President of the Republic regarding those organizations that only issue statements and do not activate them financially concerning the migration crisis.

The speaker furthermore attributed that these data may also lead us to Tunisia’s relationship with the International Monetary Fund, particularly after pledges from some parties to mediate and resolve the outstanding problems, but so far there is no new data in this context, awaiting what will arise from the Tunisian delegation’s visit to the United States and its participation in the spring meetings.
