Tunisia-Part-time teachers threaten to boycott classes and withhold grades [Declaration]

National coordinator of temporary teachers Malek Ayari told Tunisie Numérique that it had been decided to initiate several demonstration actions by professionals in the sector.

Our speaker explained that this decision comes after the postponement of the demands of substitute teachers and the agreement inked on May 23, 2023, as well as after the abandonment of several promised positions.

He added that part-time teachers are calling to combat forms of precarious employment, remarking that contrary to what the Ministry of Education claims, substitute teachers receive 932 dinars, and not 1,250 dinars, because deductions of 25% have been carried out.

“To defend the demands of professionals in the sector, temporary teachers will continue their work normally this week. Nevertheless, a national protest movement will be organized with the possibility of withholding grades and boycotting classes,” he revealed.
