Tunisia-President Saied meets with PM Bouden

President of the Republic Kaïs Saïed met on Wednesday with Prime Minister Najla Bouden at Carthage Palace.

The meeting concentrated on the issues on the agenda of the following cabinet meeting, which will explore a set of decrees on the Supreme Judicial Council and fiscal reconciliation. “Those who desire reconciliation and peace are welcome, and those who lean towards other means should understand that there is a state and institutions that will operate until the interests of the people are achieved,” he said.

The Head of State criticized “those who publish fraudulent texts to mislead (public opinion)… they are outdated… I believed they were up to this phase, but it seems that they dream of returning to manipulation and lynching the people.

President Saïed declared he will continue his mission, “despite those who scheme and want to starve the people, and who are ready to do anything to stay in power”. “Power is a burden and a duty for which I will be held accountable,” he said.

Citing an article from the newspaper Assawab dating from 1920 and entitled “You are asked about the Constitution, say…”, the President of the Republic stated that “what Tunisia is encountering today is equal to the situation during the period of colonisation”. “The idea of a constitution has come to give the wrong legitimacy to illegitimate rulers,” he said. He added, “We desire the Constitution to be a means of realising the will of the people, not the will of another party that seeks to oppress and play the people.
