Tunisia- Qalb Tounes warns of any attempt to violate the Constitution

Qalb Tounes’ party warned, in a declaration issued of the gravity of the background paper for the government coalition that offered PM-designate Elyes Fakhakh to the parties he had summoned for consultations to form the government, the party stated they had been called to adopt an extraordinary law that authorises (the Prime Minister) to run the state by decree without prior consent by parliament.

The party reemphasised its appeal to the President Kais Siaed to explain his perception and stand on the apparent contradiction between what was declared in the letter mandating Fakfakh and inviting for respect for the will of the voters and the recommendations of the parties and parliamentary blocs, and between PM Fakfakh’s remarks that he derives his legitimacy solely from the results of the presidential election, insinuating that his government will be the government of the President, as evidenced by his regular visit to the Carthage Palace to offer reports on the development of his consultations.

After Friday’s meeting of its political bureau dedicated to the consultations for the formation of the new government, Qalb Tounes’ party had already communicated its “anxiety” about the measures taken and called on the PM to explain the issue, reported the TAP agency.

The party also deemed that there were several suggestions that this course will threaten the foundations of the political system estabmshied in the constitution, as it eliminates the full results of the parliamentary elections and the parliamentary size of the parties.
