Minister of Local Affairs, Lotfi Zitoun addressed the controversy incited by a marriage contract between a French citizen and a Tunisian in France.
This marriage was included in the birth certificate of the Tunisian husband.
Zitoun thus clarified that this contract did not comply with the legal provisions with civil status in Tunisia. Therefore, it is an invalid contract.
During a plenary session, he said, the marriage in question is not in conformity with Tunisian law which does not recognize marriage between persons of the same sex. Tunisian law penalizes homosexual relations, with or without a contract.
