President of the Republic, Kais Saied, welcomed this morning, Monday April 29, 2024, at Carthage Palace , Mr. Péter Szijjártó, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
On this occasion, the President of the Republic remembered some of the historical milestones of the close relations of friendship between Tunisia and Hungary since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1956 and recalled the values of freedom and adhesion to the independence of national decision-making shared by the two nations.
The Head of State also stressed Tunisia’s concern to further develop its fruitful ties with Hungary, within the bilateral framework and the framework of the European Union, in light of the promising opportunities offered to both countries in cooperation and partnership, especially in the areas of renewable energy, food security, higher education, trade, transportation and other relevant sectors, for a better future for the two friendly peoples.
During this meeting, the President of the Republic reiterated Tunisia’s strong condemnation of the flagrant daily violations, war crimes and genocide committed against the Palestinian people. In this context, he recalled Tunisia’s firm position in favour of the Palestinian people in its determination to establish its independent State with full sovereignty over the entire land of Palestine, with Jerusalem as its capital, and its total support for right of the State of Palestine to full membership in the United Nations.
The Head of State also addressed the issue of irregular migration, stressing that Tunisia is a country of law and does not accept the presence of outlaws on its territory, and called for a collective fight against this phenomenon, in particular by eliminating the root causes that led to its emergence and spread.
