Tunisia-Shaker Jahmi: “Sit-in by IPSI students 100% successful, we demand institute director to issue an official apology” [Video]

Speaking to Tunisie Numérique, student at the Institute of Journalism and News Sciences (IPSI) Shaker Jahmi confirmed that the sit-in and boycott of lessons and exams carried out by the institute’s students since yesterday, Monday, was 100% successful.

Jahmi clarified that this step taken by IPSI students is in reaction to a call for support for the student movement in the United States of America in support of the Palestinian cause and for the movements undertaken by several Tunisians and in the Arab world, which came in form marches or demonstrations.

The speaker stated that the students decided to hold the sit-in at the institute’s headquarters, demanding that the institute’s administration sever its connection with all international organizations that support the Zionist entity that recognizes Israel and has offices in the occupied Palestinian territories, and pledge in writing that they will not have any other association with such organizations.

Concerning the interaction of the IPSI administration, Jahmi reported that a scientific office meeting was held, and the director of the institute interacted with the students’ demands, including a demand for an official apology, as she was held administratively and morally responsible for what could be called academic normalization.

In the same context, he emphasised that this apology will be in the name of the students, including Palestinian students enlisted at the Institute of Journalism and News Sciences, particularly those who are indigenous to the Gaza Strip.
