Tunisia-Sherif: “To protect children from violence and sexual exploitation, there are monitoring applications provided by Tunisian Agency for Information Safety” [Video]

Speaking to Tunisie Numérique, President of the Tunisian Association for the Defense of Children’s Rights Dr. Moez Sharif considered what was circulated yesterday regarding the operations of sending, harassing, and blackmailing children to be a phenomenon of cyber violence directed against children.

He stressed that these phenomena exist and are increasing in Tunisia, and this is largely because the strategy to fight violence has still not borne fruit and has not provided the required protection for all children, in addition to the fact that guardians also do not have the same capabilities that permit them to deal with networks. Social communication and the Internet, particularly since children’s abilities to use these networks surpass those of parents.

The speaker attracted attention to the presence of a complete program and free applications available on the Tunisian Agency for Information Safety website, which allows parents to monitor their children’s use of the Internet and different applications, not just communication applications, highlighting that this great effort by the agency has not been promoted as such noting that it must be at the media level.

The president of the Tunisian Association for Defending Children’s Rights underscored that it is necessary to work in dealing with children to include education on the usage of modern social media, which must be included in educational establishments because they include all children and it is possible to raise awareness of all students via them and enable them to know a set of details to verify the information and to shield themselves because the most significant point is a conscious child who can protect himself from all the dangers present on social media sites.

In the same context, the speaker condemned the publication of images of children on the websites of educational institutions such as institutes and preparatory schools, cautioning that this practice is a breach of personal data and is one of the reasons that contribute to incidents similar to the incident of the 12-year-old child, and it is the first door to polarization and Perils and exploitation of all kinds, particularly sexual exploitation.
