Tunisia – Transport Federation: Transtu has only 350 buses and 27 metro trains

Speaking to Shem FM, Secretary General of the Transport Federation, Wajih Zidi, stated that the TransTU has only 350 buses and 27 metro trains, which will constitute a true catastrophe for the next school year.

Zidi affirmed that the means available to Transtu do not permit it to serve all the destinations, and to compensate for this, the company will be obliged to withdraw a few lines in order to secure  school and university transport.

While, sometimes, the transtu provides two lines with a single bus and that despite this blatant lack of rolling stock, there is no purchase clause of rolling stock in progress, confirmed the secretary general of the Federation of Transport.

In this case, and in view of the country’s economic situation, he called for the purchase of second -hand bus in order to be able to ensure public transport for citizens.

Wajih Zidi explained that during the years 2007, 2008 and 2009, the Transtu secured travel with 110 metro trains for only 27 today, with an average of 3 or 4 trains per line, some of which broke down more.

As with buses that have been some 1230 in recent years to fall to 350s, including a number that will be dedicated to school and university transport, and beyond, the TransTU will be forced to cancel certain lines.
