Tunisia-Tunisia gains 5 places in the global innovation index

Tunisia has just been ranked 65th in the 2020 Global Innovation Index (GII), published by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), therefore gaining 5 places opposed to 2019.
At the African level, Tunisia occupies 3rd place after Mauritius (52nd) and South Africa (60th), consequently leaving behind Morocco in 4th position, indicates the GII indicator, developed in partnership with Cornell University and the European Institute of Business Administration and which measures the innovation performance of 131 economies around the world.
In the Arab region, Tunisia and the United Arab Emirates (34th) are the best-ranked countries in the region, followed by Saudi Arabia (66th), Iran (67th), Qatar (70th) and Morocco (75th).
Also according to this index, Tunisia ranks 7th among the 29 economies in the lower-middle-income group and 7th among the 19 economies in North Africa and West Asia.
Relative to GDP, Tunisia’s performance exceeds expectations in terms of its level of development, reveals the same source, stressing that it has high scores in five of the seven pillars of the IGI: Institutions, Human Capital and Research, Infrastructure, knowledge and technology and creative outcomes that are above average for the lower-middle-income category.
In contrast, Tunisia scores below average for its income category in two pillars: market sophistication and business.
Globally, Switzerland is at the top of the ranking. It is followed by Sweden and the United States, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands.
