A number of nations have been marked as the most dangerous travel destinations in the world.
International SOS has published a map rating the countries by level of risk.
Separating the risk levels into categories – extreme, high, medium, low and insignificant – the map has revealed the riskiest destinations in the world for holidaymakers.
Other constituents, such as the robustness of the transportation infrastructure, the state of industrial relationships, the effectiveness of the security and emergency services and the country’s sensitivity to natural disasters are more considered where they are of sufficient magnitude to impact the overall risk environment for travellers.
Taking these into accounts Tunisia was ranked among the medium risk countries.
“Extreme” risk countries — the highest category — involved simply 14 nations (largely spanning Africa and the Middle East): Afghanistan, Yemen, Syria, Libya, Mali, Somalia, South Sudan and the Central African Republic, along with parts of Nigeria, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ukraine, Pakistan, Iraq and Egypt.
Meanwhile, “low” risk countries involved the US, Canada and most of Europe, while Scandinavian nations constituted the highest number of “insignificant” risk nations — the safest designation.
