On Saturday, July 16, agents of the National Guard’s Judicial Research Brigade in Kairouan apprehended three people who had been arrested excavating near the cement plant in Rouissat zone of the Chébika delegation in Kairouan to extract waste of unspecified origin, buried underground, in order to repackage it on board a truck brought for this purpose and to move it to a still unknown destination.
According to the first information available, a certain number of residents of Rouissat area have alerted the local authorities of the presence of large quantities of waste buried clandestinely underground. The Public Prosecutor at the Kairouan Court of First Instance ordered the seizure of three vehicles and ordered the competent authorities to carry out the required analyzes to determine the quality of this waste and the extent of its risk to the environment.
