Two people are dead and at least six others are wounded after a shooting outside a late-night house party in New Jersey near a popular housing area for Rutgers University students.
Rutgers and New Brunswick police stated that one or more suspects “fired numerous shots from a weapon striking individuals who were present” at an off-campus house party on Sunday.
The Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office announced it does not appear any Rutgers students were involved.
Yellow evidence markers dotted Delafield Street, just minutes from the Rutgers campus, identifying dozens of shell casings.
“Those injured were transported to an area hospital and injuries are reported to be serious,” according to the New Brunswick Police Department.
At least eight people were transported to nearby hospital, police said.
Two men were pronounced dead at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital.
No arrests have been made and it remains unclear how many suspects may have been involved.
“Information as to the description(s) of the perpetrator(s) is limited at this time and the investigation is active and ongoing,” Rutgers chief Kenneth Cop said in a statement.
Local authorities have asked for people with information to contact New Brunswick police and Middlesex prosecutors.
