UN adopts resolution on Crimea

The United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution on human rights in the Russian-occupied Crimean Peninsula. The resolution has been approved yearly since 2016 and is non-binding. This year, 82 countries voted in favor, 80 abstained and 13 were against, including China.

The resolution called on Russia to “take all necessary measures” to end “all violations and abuses” against the citizens of Crimea. The UN also urged Moscow to repeal the laws it introduced “allowing forced eviction and confiscation of private property, including land, in Crimea in violation of international law.”
