UN urges to ‘immediately stop’ arms supply to Israel

Over 30 United Nations experts released a statement on Friday urging global companies and worldwide governments to “immediately” halt the supply of weapons and ammunition “or parts of them” to Israel, emphasising that those exports are “likely to violate international humanitarian law.”

“Such transfers are prohibited even if the exporting State does not intend the arms to be used in violation of the law – or does not know with certainty that they would be used in such a way – as long as there is a clear risk,” they noted.

While applauding actions taken by Belgium, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands and the Japanese company Itochu Corporation in stopping weapons transfer to Israel, they accused the United States and Germany of being “by far the largest arms exporters” and even increasing shipments on October 7. France, the United Kingdom, Canada and Australia were also labelled as countries that needed to stop feeding Israel’s military capability.
