Coronavirus was not developed as a biological weapon, nor is it likely that it was genetically engineered, the unclassified report from the United States Office of the Director of National Intelligence said on Friday.
The report further emphasised that more definitive findings will require cooperation with Chinese experts and officials. Shortly after, US President Joe Biden conveyed a similar message, stating that China is withholding “critical information” which could help determine the COVID-19 origins.
“After examining all available intelligence reporting and other information, though, the IC remains divided on the most likely origin of Covid-19. All agencies assess that two hypotheses are plausible: natural exposure to an infected animal and a laboratory-associated incident,” the statement read.
