Chinese President Xi Jinping told United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Friday, during the latter’s visit to Beijing, that the two countries should be working together rather than acting as rivals.
As per Chinese state media, Xi insisted that the two sides should look for common ground and put differences aside, instead of engaging in “vicious competition.” He added that Beijing is “happy to see a self-confident, open, prosperous and developing” US.
Xi further mentioned that in the last couple of months, teams from the two countries “made some positive progress.” However, certain issues are yet to be resolved, the head of China remarked, adding that there is “still room for further efforts.”
