World leaders congratulate Joe Biden on US election win

Leaders of the world felicitated Joe Biden on Saturday for winning the US presidential election after beating  Donald Trump.

Following are their words to Biden in tweets and official statements carried by state news agencies:

  • Jordan’s King Abdullah bin al-Hussein said in a tweet: “Congratulations to President-elect Joe Biden and VP-election Kamala Harris. I look forward to working with you on further advancing the solid historic partnership between Jordan and the United States, in the interest of our shared objectives of peace, stability and prosperity.”
  • Iraq’s President Barham Salih said in a tweet: “I extend warmest congratulations to President-elect Joe Biden, a friend and trusted partner in the cause of building a better Iraq. We look forward to working to achieve our common goals and strengthening peace and stability in the entire Middle East.”

  • Oman’s sultan Haitham bin Tariq al-Said expressed in a letter his “sincere congratulations to President-elect Biden for gaining the confidence of the American people,” and wished him “success in leading the friendly American people towards further progress and welfare,” state news agency reported.The Sultan also wished for the “friendship and cooperation” between the Oman and the US to grow.

  • Lebanon’s President Michel Aoun wrote to Biden congratulating him for winning the presidential election and for “winning the American people’s trust.” He also wished for the return of balance in Lebanese-American relations during his term, the presidency tweeted.

  • Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi congratulated Biden in a statement and stressed “the aspiration for cooperation and joint action to strengthen Egyptian-American strategic ties.”

  • Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed al-Nahyan said in a tweet: “Congratulations to Joe Biden and Kamala Harris on winning the US elections. Our sincere wishes for further development and prosperity for the American people. The UAE and USA are friends and allies with a strong historic partnership that we look forward to strengthening together.”

  • German counsellor Angle Merkal said “I look forward to future cooperation with President Biden. Our transatlantic friendship is irreplaceable if we are to master the great challenges of our time.”
  • UK PM Boris Johnson declared ““Congratulations to Joe Biden on his election as President of the United States and to Kamala Harris on her historic achievement.“The U.S. is our most important ally and I look forward to working closely together on our shared priorities, from climate change to trade and security.”
  • France President Emmanuel Marcon statted ““The Americans have chosen their President. Congratulations @JoeBiden and @KamalaHarris! We have a lot to do to overcome today’s challenges. Let’s work together!”
  • President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen wrote “I warmly congratulate Mr Joe Biden on his victory in the US presidential election and look forward to meeting him at the earliest possible opportunity.“The European Union and the United States are friends and allies, our citizens share the deepest of links…As the world continues to change and new challenges and opportunities appear, our renewed partnership will be of particular importance.”
  • Ukraine president Volodymyr Zelensky said  “Congratulations to @JoeBiden @KamalaHarris! Ukraine is optimistic about the future of the strategic partnership with the United States. Ukraine and the United States have always collaborated on security, trade, investment, democracy, fight against corruption. Our friendship becomes only stronger!”
  • Spain prime minster Pedro Sánchez affirmed “The American people have chosen the 46th President of the United States. Congratulations @JoeBiden and @KamalaHarris. We wish you good luck and all the best. We are looking forward to cooperating with you to tackle the challenges ahead of us,” he said.
  • Dutch prime minister Mark Rutte said “On behalf of the Dutch cabinet I would like to congratulate @JoeBiden and @KamalaHarris with their election victory after a close race. I am looking forward to continue the strong bond between our countries, and hope to speak with him about these matters soon.”
