Tunisia-Luigi Di Maio:Illegal migrants arriving in Italy will be repatriated

Illegal immigrants landing on Italy’s shores “will be repatriated,” Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio announced Monday in Tunis after a Tunisian-Italian-European working session chaired by President of the Republic Kaîs Saied.
Italy will continue helping Tunisia, Di Maio told the media. He praised the European Union’s willingness to step up efforts to address illegal migration.
Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Selma Ennaifer cited President Saied as saying “there is need to go beyond the security approach in decreasing migration flows to Italy. ”
Saied stressed the need to join efforts to put in place a comprehensive development approach that would encourage migrants not to leave their homeland.
He also announced Tunisia is determined to scale up cooperation with all actors to tackle illegal migration.
The delegation attending the working session also includes Interior Minister Luciana Lamorgese, the European Commissioner for Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement and the European Commissioner for Home Affairs
