The President of the Republic, Kais Saied, issued four presidential decrees in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Tunisia “JORT” on freezing the work of the House of People’s Representatives.
The decrees are as follows:
- Article 1 – All powers of the House of People’s Representatives are suspended, for a period of one month from July 25, 2021. The time limit may be prolonged by presidential decree, in accordance with the provisions of article 80 of the Constitution.
- Article. 2 – The parliamentary immunity of all MPs of the House of People’s Representatives is lifted for the duration of the suspension of its work.
- Article. 3 – The Secretary-General of the House of People’s Representatives is responsible for managing the administrative and financial matters of the parliament.
- Article. 4 – This Presidential decree will be issued in the Jort.
