Tunisia-PDL [live]: sit-inners continue hunger strike

In a live video on her page, this Sunday evening, May 08, 2022, PDL leader  Abir Moussi revealed that some sit-inners are continuing their hunger strike, pointing out that the two physicians on site have examined them. “Deprived of shelter, the hunger strikers were exposed to the rains and the sun. This impacted their metabolism and their psychological state, “said one of the doctors.

Ms. Moussi condemned the forceful removal of the shelter by the security forces, accusing the authority in place of the decline of the state of health of the sit-inners. She likewise lamented the administration’s indifference to their demands, including the dissolution of the branch of Muslim scholars in Tunisia.

In the same vein, Ms Moussi pointed to the lower number of protesters, implying that the head of the state no longer derives his legitimacy from the will of the people. “Who called for the organization of this stand? We addressed this question to the Ministry of the Interior in correspondence, but without explanation” she asked, “Powerful parties such as July 25, Echaab Movement, New Republic Movement and some members of the Popular Current “, she replied. “Does he plan to initiate a national dialogue with parties that are weak representatives of the Tunisian people? (…) Moreover, he has not set until this moment, the axes of this dialogue. It no longer has any weight and lacks the support of the people,” she said.

She even considered that the demonstration is “a masquerade” given the low participation and the breach of the decree of the governor of Tunis relating to the banning of the organization of demonstrations of a political nature at Avenue Habib Bourguiba. “If Charfeddine, the right to demonstrate and assembly are not subject to authorization but to prior notice”, she stressed in response to the rejection of the organization of the march towards the Palace of Carthage on 15 May.
