Former Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe has been rushed to hospital after collapsing during a speech in Nara.
Japan’s national broadcaster NHK reported on Friday that a gunshot was heard at the scene.
NHK also said a man had been taken into custody but provided no further details.
Kyodo News reported on its part just that Abe was unconscious and unresponsive.
