Blinken welcomes UN vote against Iran

United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken hailed on Wednesday the decision by the United Nation’s Economic and Social Council to expel Iran from the Commission on the Status of Women. He stated that the vote was an “unmistakable message” of support for Iranian people taking part in nationwide protests and “remain undaunted despite the brutality and violence perpetrated against them by the Iranian regime.”

Blinken accused Iran of holding “sham trials” resulting in harsh sentences, including the death penalty, as well as of “killing hundreds of peaceful protestors, including dozens of children, and arbitrarily detaining thousands.” He added that the US extends its “unwavering support” to the people of Iran.
