FIFA: FAF sanctioned because of Tunisian coach!

“Nothing is going well at the FAF! The Algerian Football Federation was fined 50,000 Swiss francs on Friday by the disciplinary body of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA). This financial sanction stems directly from the conflict between Tunisian coach Lotfi Sellimi and the Algerian 2nd division club, Olympique Médéa.

According to FIFA, it is critical for national federations to scrupulously respect its regulations and decisions, particularly concerning contractual disputes and licensing procedures.

Nevertheless, the Algerian body failed to comply by not disbursing one billion five hundred million centimes into the account of Olympique Médéa, whose Tunisian technician had already reached FIFA after his dismissal from OM in 2022 (12 matches, 4 victories, and 8 defeats). The club was ordered to pay him 8,678,508 DA in arrears of remuneration.

Also, the FAF should not ignore this debt, as it is hard to see how OM could pay off this amount, considering the club does not even benefit from TV rights.

According to the FAF press release, the dispute between Sellimi and Olympique Médéa has led to important repercussions, involving the non-compliance with a FIFA decision concerning the ban on awarding licenses by the National Football League amateur (LNFA).”
