Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for Russian diplomacy, firmly criticized Germany for its support for Israel, currently accused of genocidal acts in Gaza by the International Court of Justice.
According to Zakharova, this position by Germany reveals its lack of repentance for its own Nazi crimes, notably the Holocaust and the genocide of the Hereros and Namas in Namibia. She laments that Berlin is once again dividing people according to their nationality, a practice she describes as immoral, illegal and reminiscent of the militarism of Germany’s past.
Zakharova stressed global anger over the situation of Palestinians in Gaza, noting condemnation of the German initiative by world leaders, including the Namibian President. She cautions of the potentially serious consequences of Germany’s tendency to endorse neo-Nazi practices.
