Japan earthquake death toll up to 92, 242 missing

The number of people killed in the earthquake that hit central Japan on January 1 increased to 92, local authorities stated on Friday. Over 460 people have been wounded, with 242 still missing.

Officials in the Ishikawa Prefecture said the city of Wajima suffered the most fatalities at 55, followed by Suzu at 23. Search and rescue operations continue, although they are hampered by the massive damage caused by the earthquake and difficult weather conditions.
