Shooting in Brussels: alleged attacker is dead, a 45-year-old Tunisian affiliated with Daesh

This is the epilogue of a manhunt that terrorized the people of Brussels for hours. The race of the alleged attacker who shot dead two Swedish citizens yesterday Monday evening was arrested by security forces on Tuesday, October 17. The man, a 45-year-old Tunisian, died from his wounds following gunfire exchanged with the police during his arrest in a café in Schaerbeek, reports BFMTV…

Remember that on Monday evening the individual, wearing an orange jacket, approached a group of Swedish supporters who were in the Belgian capital for the Belgium-Sweden match. His two future targets were in a taxi. He fired at them in the car, then pursued them into a building lobby to finish them off.

According to the first results of the inquiries, the shooter committed these crimes alone. He arrived in Belgium in 2019 and his asylum application file was rejected by the authorities in 2020. He was on file with the Belgian and Tunisian police services but not for acts related to terrorism or radicalization.

Finally, remark that he posted on social networks a video message of protest in which he presents himself “as the attacker” and states he is “inspired by the Islamic State,” indicated the Federal Prosecutor’s Office, which is in charge of terrorism files and who initiated the investigation. It will try to identify the killer’s in-depth motivations. Why Swedes? Does the attack have anything to do with the burning of books of the Koran, to which the Swedish authorities turn a blind eye?
