Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said on Wednesday that is considering whether or not he should remain at the head of the country’s government amid accusations against his wife Begoña Gomez for alleged influence peddling and business corruption.
In a letter published in X, Sanchez said he will pause his official activities until April 29, when he will hold a press conference to announce his decision. “I need to stop and deliberate with my wife […] I must answer the question of whether I should continue […] or resign from this high honour,” he emphasised.
He added that the charges against Gomez were imposed by ultra-right-wing harassers, seeking to “bring him to political and personal disgrace.” “The severity of the attacks that my wife and I are receiving, and the need to give a calm response, make me think that this [letter] is the best way to express my opinion.”
