The Emirati channel The National launched this Monday, January 29, “Abtal”, a series of podcasts presenting talks with Arab athletes before starting their adventures towards the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
With Ons Jabeur as the first guest, along with Egyptian Mayar Sherif, this series, hosted by sports journalist Reem Abulleil, will dive deep into the lives of sporting icons from the Arab world, concentrating on the spirit athlete’s human nature, the pressures they encounter and the mentality they adopt to perform and excel.
First, both players debated their journeys, how to succeed in the sport and how each set a different path to the highest echelons of women’s tennis, reflecting on the key decisions they made along the way.
Next, Ons Jabeur opened up about her heartbreaking loss in the 2023 Wimbledon final, while Sherif showed what pushed her to pursue a career in professional tennis halfway through her studies.
Finally, note that the purpose of this media project, by the Olympic Games in July, listeners will have acquired a better understanding of what these athletes go through to access the biggest stage in the world of sport.
