During today’s meeting between a delegation from the Tunisian Textile and Clothing Federation (FTTH) and Fatma Thabet Chiboub, Minister of Industry, Energy, and Mines, the Department of Industry disclosed key indicators of the textile and clothing sector.
The textile industry remains an essential pillar of the national economy and contributes greatly to the socio-economic balance of Tunisia.
Sector indicators show export revenues of 1,752.5 million dinars, or about 465 million euros, generated by the sector during the first two months of the current year.
The ministry recollected that Tunisia was the 10th supplier of ready-to-wear clothing to the European Union in 2023, a year during which Tunisia achieved export revenues from Tunisian jeans of around 382 million euros. Remark that Tunisia is the leading supplier to the Italian denim market.
The meeting between professionals and representatives of the Ministry of Industry was a chance to examine strategically important themes for the development of the textile sector and its move upmarket.
These include the regulatory constraints of the classification decree and the prevention certificate, the project for the water treatment and recycling station of the Monastir technopoly, the project for the creation of a new innovative, green and ecological industrial zone which represents a new concept of green, sustainable and ecologically responsible industry and the issues relating to the advantages granted to companies which are set in regional development zones (specifically decrees 389 and 675).
