Tunisia-Bassam Naifer: “These banking operations become free for those whose wage does not surpass 1,500TND ” [Video]

In a statement to Tunisie Numérique on Thursday, February 1, 2024, financial and economic specialist Bassam Naifer stressed that the Central Bank has approved several new measures, set to be enforced from February 12. These measures seek to enhance banking services, ease the financial burden on citizens, and encourage people to engage in organized and transparent financial operations.

Naifer summarised six key points in the new procedures. Two of these are specially designed for customers whose monthly income does not surpass 1,500 dinars. The first is a free subscription to bank cards, making this process cost-free. The second step for this income group implicates lessening account maintenance fees to a maximum of 3 dinars per month.

He additionally elaborated that the remaining measures, applicable to all customers, include waiving fees for disputing transactions on lost or robbed bank cards and for re-issuing PINs if they are forgotten or lost. He underscored that these services would be free for all customers, including those with corporate cards.

Additionally, he emphasised that there would be a 30 percent reduction in fees for different transfer operations for individual customers. The final measure addresses the use of payment terminals, known as TPEs, by merchants. The fee deduction for employing this service will not exceed 1.3 percent of the transaction value.
