In response to the video circulating on social networks showing citizens propelled to climb over the broken window of a metro, the Tunis transport company (Transtu) provided, in an official press release dated today, the following clarifications:
This scene was filmed at the “El Khadhra city” station on line 2 towards the city centre, and the door that the users employed to board was closed due to the failure of the automatic control system, as the Transtu specifies due to the shortage of wagons, drivers close the doors during the journey in the event of a malfunction, to ensure the safety of passengers.
Transtu likewise pointed out the mobilization of surveillance and security personnel in stations and black spots, in particular, to shut the doors of buses and metros before their departure.
The same source registered an increase in the number of acts of vandalism targeting the fleet, in particular glass panels and automatic door control systems for the rail network.
“Since the start of the current year, 55 glass panels were broken in January and February, and 54 in March, including 21 glass doors, and until April 23, 18 glass doors were broken,” we read in the press release.
