Riadh Daghfous, member of the national coronavirus vaccination campaign, announced on November 29, 2021, that the vaccines available have, so far, demonstrated their effectiveness against the variants identified.
Concerning the new Omicron variant, Dr Daghfous pointed out in a radio statement that studies are underway to evaluate the effectiveness of these vaccines against the new variant, and that within two weeks, these studies will report on the outcomes of these experiments.
He likewise highlighted the absence of more than 800,000 people aged 40 and over called upon to be vaccinated, calling on those absent to join the vaccination centres and respect their appointments, since the health situation is not more reassuring in Europe because of the spread of the new Omicron variant.
He stressed that all sequencing tests can identify the existence of this variant.
