Surgeon Riad Shaker and engineer and owner of an industrial establishment Malek Meftah succeeded in creating a modern isolation device for COVID-19 patients. The first of its kind in Tunisia,the device is equipped with ventilation that will enable patients to breathe between one to six hours depending on the battery capacity, said Dr Chaker.
The two men will display the device to Sadok Mokaddem regional hospital in Djerba to be tested and add modification proposed by doctors,they will later send a Correspondance for the health ministry for opinion and obtain the final approval.
Patients are placed inside this closed device which is equipped with a ventilation system that prevents any air contamination from entering or leaving with a battery-powered fan. The device can be sterilized and used many times.
The idea of inventing the machine after Dr Riad observed hospitals need to prevent infection and protects medical and paramedical workers, particularly when moving COVID-19 patients from either a health institution to another or when it is placed under to a scanner or otherwise.
If the inventions work, the two men will manufacture the device to meet the demand of the health sector while proceeding to produce it in Djerba to provide it to hospitals.
