Tunisia – Ennahdha reacts to sentencing of Ghannouchi and Bouchleka to 3 years in prison

The Executive Office of the Islamist Ennahda Movement issued a statement in which it described the verdict handed down against the  Ennahdaleader Rached Ghannouchi, and his son-in-law, Rafik Bouchleka, of 3 years in prison and massive financial fines, as “an unjust decision” and “a new injustice”.

The statement said that “the accusation would link to the receipt of foreign funding in what is known as the lobbying affair.”

Ennahdha voiced its “rejection of the judgment (…) because of its confidence in the innocence of the party, its respect for the law, the transparency of its relations and its concern to behave well and respect procedures and laws.

The Executive Office underscored that the Ennahdha movement “has never acquired funding from any foreign entity,” adding: “Its only account is under the control of all judicial and financial institutions, and is not subject to no suspicion”.
