Tunisia-Fires-Khalifa Chibani: Former leaders chant ‘You have rejected us, we will starve you’

Speaking to Tunisie Numérique, Colonel and security specialist Khalifa Chibani said the latest blazes coincide with political skirmishes between different parties. He, therefore, ruled out the prospect that these fires were involuntary revealing that some parties are adopting a scorched earth policy.

Chibani hinted that the fires are linked to the shortage of basic necessities in the nation explaining that the former leaders chant: “You rejected us, we will starve you”.

Our speaker wondered about the advancement of the inquiry into the sinking of the Xelo, adding that a boat was burned yesterday in Gabès following information on its use in smuggling operations. Chibani cautioned against these fires particularly at the approach of the harvest season calling on the Ministries of Interior and Agriculture to intervene to secure food security for Tunisians. “The battle is political. According to several parties, everything is allowed to target the President of the Republic,” adds the political analyst.
